Rifle & Pistol Range Rules
PLEASE NOTE THE RANGES ARE CLOSED ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS, INCLUDING THURSDAY NIGHT SUMMER TRAP LEAGUE. SEE CALENDAR FOR SPECIFIC DATES.
Observe all safe gun-handling rules:
- actions open until shooting (or gun broken open)
- muzzle pointed in a safe direction
- finger off the trigger until ready to shoot

- Shouldering and pointing firearms is only allowed from the shooting station with the muzzle pointed down range.
- No loaded firearm is to leave the shooting station.
- All guns are to be unloaded with the action open and on the shooting benches or in the gun rack when targets are being serviced, changed, or checked.
- No handling of firearms when anyone is down range.
- Properly worn eye and ear protection are recommended.
- Use of firearms on the rifle/pistol ranges while intoxicated is prohibited. Use of alchohol and/or drugs on the range or shelters is not permitted.
- Firearms may not be loaded unless pointed down range at the shooting station. Muzzleloaders may be pointed up for loading purposes only.
- All shooters must sign a liability waiver (one time per year).
- State of Wisconsin laws are followed regarding the age of shooters.
- This is a member's-only range - trespassers may be prosecuted.
- A daily range card is required to shoot, except on "sight in days", or other special events. Those 16 years old and younger are free.
- If firearm problems occur, keep the muzzle pointed down range.
- If a broken, jammed or inoperable firearm condition occurs, the Range Officer (if present) will take the firearm with the owner to a safe location for repairs.
- Any rule violation will be handled by the Range Officer, Board of Directors or the Safety Committee. Violators may be suspended from shooting until a meeting with an established committee is held at which time action/penalties will be decided.
- All targets must be placed on the target holder unless a Range Officer is present and approves other target holding devices.
- Only paper or cardboard targets may be used unless a Range Officer is present and approves other target types.
- Use movable portable shooting benches to get closer to the target holder and backstop. All targets must be positioned so that all shots impact the backstop - no exceptions.
- Shooting hours are 8:00 am to sunset. (Law Enforcement Training may occur at different hours as arranged with the Board of Directors).
- No moving targets may be used unless approved at special events by the Range Officer.
- No tracer shells may be used.
- No explosive impact shells may be used.
- No .50 caliber BMG base, or larger; centerfire ammunition is to be used.
- No automatic firearms are to be used.
- Place all trash into trash containers when finished shooting.
- These rules are subject to modification and change at any time.
