Trapshooting Rules
REVISED 4/2025​​


Observe all safe gun-handling rules:
    - actions open until shooting (or gun broken open)
    - muzzle pointed in a safe direction
    - finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
 
                                                                                                          
  1. If gun problem occurs, point the muzzle down range.
  2. Shouldering and pointed firearms are only allowed on the shooting line with the muzzle pointed down range.
  3. Properly worn eye and ear protection is mandatory for all 17 and under while shooting, coaching, or scoring while in or close to shooting area. For all others it is highly recommended. 
  4. Discharge of firearms are only allowed on the firing line.
  5. Guns must be on the gun rack when the orange flag is up on the scoring bench and the orange cone/flag is up on top of the trap house. This allows the house to be safely filled. The "trap person" will inform you when it is safe to take firearms to the shooting line.
  6. No loading of shells into the firearm unless on the shooting line.
  7. All shooters must sign a liability waiver (one time per year).
  8. Only one shell in the firearm at a time unless shooting doubles or international trap.
  9. No food or beverages on the shooting line or within shooting area.
  10. Alcohol and or drugs before or during shooting are not recommended.
  11. No alcohol on or north of the fence or scoring benches. 
  12. Only shooters on the shooting line, scorers, and coaches are allowed within the shooting area.
  13. Empty shells that hit the ground become club property.
  14. All shooters must review the general shooting safety rules located/posted in the clubhouse and on the website.  www.berlincc.org
  15. State of Wisconsin laws are followed regarding the age of shooters, although physical ability and gun controlwill be considered.
  16. Talking, yelling, or other distracting gestures are not permitted on the shooting line.
  17. If the shooter cannot clear a jammed, broken or inoperable firearm, the Range Safety Officer will take possession of it (with the owner) and remove it to a safe location.
  18. No one is allowed beyond the firing line unless authorized by the Range Safety Officer or a Board of Directorsmember.
  19. Any safety violations will be handled by the Range Safety Officer, league officials, the Board of Directors orthe Safety Committee. Violators may be suspended from shooting until a meeting with an established committee isheld at which time action/penalties will be decided.
  20. The ATA Rules, as of 2020, Section XIII, paragraphs 1, 2, 3, and 4, will be followed pertaining to shot shell loadsand guns.
  21. These rules are subject to modification and changes at any time.
